Grid system for inflight magazine

This week we started to create a grid system. We are using grid to structure content. The grid serves as an armature on which a designer can organize text and images in a rational, easy to absorb manner.

Here is my grid system for inflight magazine:

I decided to do 3 columns. Each columns are 5.3 cm and each gutters are 0.7mm. From left and right it is 2.1 and 1.6 cm.

I did also some exercise to understand how can I use this grid in my magazine.

Inflight Magazine

This week I did some research about inflight magazine. I found on web some examples. The visuals are generally large and plentiful with an emphasis on high quality imagery. Colours also warm, inviting, relaxing for passengers. They used a grid system by using 3 columns.

Candy Cang- ‘Before I Die’

While I was surfing on Internet I saw this interesting project which is called ‘Before I Die’. This project is done by Candy Cang who is an artist, designer and urban planner.

Before I Die is an interactive public art project that help to transform neglected spaces into a constructive places where we can discover the hopes and dreams of the people around us. It is also a reminder to ourselves of what is most important to us. Candy Cang is decided to do this project after she lost someone that she loved so much. She believes the design of our public spaces can better reflect what matters to us as a community and as individuals.

There are many people that responses on the wall and there are very funny and creative thoughts that Candy could have ever imagined: Before I die I want to… sing for millions, see my daughter graduate, eat a salad with an aliensee the leaves change many times, be someone’s cavalry, straddle the International Date Line, cook a souffle, hold her one more time, make it in the hip hop, help numerous children, see what I’m like as an old man, tell my mother I love her, make peace with Ohio, abandon all insecurities, be completely myself, evaporate into the light…  The project was mentioned also in Oprah Magazine, NBC’s Rock Center with Brian Williams and The Atlantic. They are called it “merely one of the most creative community projects ever.”

Written Portraits- CPNC Campaign

Since 1930, Dutch publishers and booksellers organizing book week for encourage the habits of book reading and book buying. The CPNB (in Dutch: Collectieve Propaganda van het Nederlands Boek), is established in Amsterdam.  Each CPNC encourage  public to visit their local bookshop. Book Week runs for ten days in March from Wednesday to a Sunday. First book week is done in 1932. This year CPNB is featured (auto) biography in their book week.  This work is called ‘written portaits’. This campaign is created bu Van Wanten Etcetera. His main aim is to show us the different faces behind the (auto) biography. They used Anne Frank, Vincent Van Gogh, Louis van Gaal and Kader Abdolah’s portraits.

Reflections

While I was surfing on Internet I found this interesting photography work by chance. This project is created by american photographer Tom Hussey for advertising posters to new Novartis drug called the Exelon Patch. Exelon is used to help people with memory problems and it is associated with Alzheimer’s disease. These images show how patients with Alzheimer’s see their younger self. Campaign includes several posters and each of them is great. Let’s look at them..
